Too early to lift COVID-19 restrictions
Posted by S. Kit onTexas is planning to lift its mask rule and roll back capacity limits on restaurants, joining other states who have eased restrictions in recent days.
Dr. Ashish Jha, dean of the Brown University School of Public Health, said those moves are too hasty, given most of the United States is just getting close to the point of delivering vaccines to all those at high risk for COVID-19.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced he was lifting the statewide mask mandate and restrictions on businesses, though the spread of the virus remains substantial across the state — Texas is averaging over 200 reported deaths a day over the last week.
Jha says that 'it's all too premature', as COVID cases in Texas remain high, and the spread of new more transmissible variants continue to spread across the country.
